study of wing shapes influence on mav aerodynamic coefficients
Authors
abstract
in recent years, design of small aircrafts are studied and extensively developed. one of the most important of these aircrafts is micro aerial vehicles (mavs). as part of aerodynamic design of mavs, the wing design is important. in fact, the main part of this design is to find an appropriate shape for the wing. in this work, influence of the wing shape at low reynolds number flow is investigated using several planforms. results show that as aspect ratio decreases, the lift-curve slope decreases as predicted by aerodynamic theory. the performance of the inverse zimmerman and rectangular planforms are higher than elliptic and zimmerman planforms. also, the inverse zimmerman planform is less influenced with the side flow. effects of the reynolds number and the wing edges on aerodynamic coefficients are discussed. the cfd computations are performed, and verified with the experimental data and aerodynamic theory.

Aerodynamic Hovering Performance of Rigid and Flexible Wing Planform Shapes
Wing geometric parameters govern the aerodynamic performance of insects and micro aerial vehicles. Previous studies of wing shapes have been limited to rigid wings. The aerodynamic hovering performance of rigid and flexible wing shapes for aspect ratio AR = 1.5 is evaluated computationally at the Reynolds number (Re) of 400. The three-dimensional viscous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations a...

full textModel of Unsteady Aerodynamic Coefficients of a Delta Wing Aircraft at High Angles of Attack
Several approaches for modelling the longitudinal aerodynamic coefficients of a fighter aircraft at high angles of attack, including the unsteady effects are presented. A traditional approach where the model of the coefficient arises in the form of the steady and unsteady effects, the unsteady effect being modelled by means of transfer functions. The second approach uses an internal variable de...
full textInfluence of flexibility on the aerodynamic performance of a hovering wing.
In the present study, a computational investigation was carried out to understand the influence of flexibility on the aerodynamic performance of a hovering wing. A flexible, two-dimensional, two-link model moving within a viscous fluid was considered. The Navier-Stokes equations governing the fluid dynamics were solved together with the equations governing the structural dynamics by using a str...
full textExperimental Study of Vortex Shapes behind a Wing Equipped with Different Winglets
An extensive experimental study is conducted to examine effects of different winglet-shapes and orientations on the vortex behind a wing, static surface pressure over the wing, and wing wake of a swept wing at various angles of attack. Four types of winglets, spiroid (forward and aft), blended, and winggrid are used in this investigation. Wing static surface pressure measurements are obtained f...
full textCalculations Showing the Influence of Aerodynamic Damping on Binary Wing Flutter
The influence of damping is examined by comparing the flutter critical speeds and frequencies obtained using the complete equations of motion and those obtained when all the damping terms are omitted. The calculations are made for binary flexure-torsion flutter of a wing in incompressible flow and the comparisons extend over ranges of values of the principal parameters. When the ratio of air de...
